The personal essay is the student's chance to add depth and personality to the application. It is also the key factor admissions officers consider when deciding among similar applicants. Because it can carry so much weight in the review process, the essay intimidates and overwhelms many students. Even worse, students often wait until mid-fall to begin their applications and, by then, the stress of the school year, parental pressure, extracurricular demands, and college deadlines can chip away at student confidence. With our College Application Workshop you can get an edge on the competition – starting early and eliminating the pressure and stress of procrastination. You will learn valuable tricks and tools to design the most effective application for you! We know that every student is a unique and talented individual. The key to the application process is designing an application, complimented by a powerful personal essay, that is as unique as you are. In our class we teach you how to design a cohesive application in which all of the pieces fit together seamlessly representing you; we discuss the benefits and pitfalls of possible essay topics; discuss some key structural and grammatical issues of the essay; and help each student gain the confidence needed to attack the application head-on. By the end of the course, students should have a working draft of the personal essay for the UC Application, in addition to a foundation for all additional essays.
